SPECIAL FEATURES OF MY BEARS

That sparkle in the bear’s eyes is put there by me. All my bears have hand-painted high-grade German glass eyes in your choice of colors. A nice touch is to either give the bear the eye color of the original owner of the fur or the person the bear is for. This feature is part of my copyrighted design.

My bears are fully lined using a special leather weld and muslin to provide them with years of durability.

The bears are jointed using a system of hardboard discs, locking nuts, jam nuts, and metal washers on a bolt.

I love the feel of a weighty bear so my bears are stuffed with commercial grade stuffing and glass beads. After trying many different types of stuffing, I have found this combination fulfils all my requirements. The glass beads are clean, heavy and safe for both the person handling the bear and the artist. (No lead bellies!) They will last forever without getting that “old-bear droop” unless, of course, that’s what you what!

Your choice of ribbon colors.

PERSONALIZATION

If there are initials in the lining of your fur, I can either use them in a footpad if they aren’t too large, or I’ll be glad to make a small heart with them in it for your bear to hold. **If there are no initials in the lining, your bears can still be personalized for a small additional fee.

FUR REQUIREMENTS

I do hope you haven’t stored that fur in the attic or covered it with plastic! Furs must be kept in a cool, dry place with only a soft cloth covering them or in a special fur storage bag. Usually a simple airing out can remove any musty smells.

If you tug at the fur and it comes out in your hand, it will do the same thing when it’s a bear.

Is it crispy or stiff on the bottom or at the top? If it is, it’s probably too dry to work with. However, if the middle is still pretty supple, there just might be enough fur to get a bear or two. I can try conditioning it for an additional fee.

If there are a few small tears here or there, I can most likely work around them. However, if it is badly torn, especially because it is dry, it won’t work.

Some furs are SO thick, they are simply not doable. Mouton, nanny goat, super heavy fox, are some of those furs. If you can’t squish it in your hand, then it’s probably too thick to make into a bear. Some heavier furs will be accepted but only on a case-by-case basis and they will have a surcharge.
